In 1978, Prince Charles started a two-year project called Operation Drake.Young people travelled
around the world on a ship called the Eye of the Wind. The ship followed the
route of the British explorer, Sir Francis Drake.The aim was to help young
people develop self-confidence and leadership skills.
Operation Drake was very successful, so in 1984 Prince Charles started a bigger project
called Operation Raleigh. It was
named after the famous British explorer, Sir Walter Raleigh. This was a
four-year project, and there were two ships and 4 000 volunteers who went
around the world. The project was very popular so Prince Charles decided to
make Operation Raleigh a permanent
organization called Raleigh International.
Today young people (17-25 years old) from all backgrounds and all
nationalities volunteer to work on Raleigh International projects. Raleigh International runs ten expeditions a year to Chile,
Costa Rica, Nicaragua, Namibia and Malaysian Borneo.

1. THE LONDON
DUNGEON.
Just round the corner from London
Bridge station, there’s usually a big
queue for London’s
most popular attraction these days –The London Dungeon. This underground museum
is about prisons, torture and death during the history of London.

2. COVENT GARDEN.
Until the 1970s, Covent Garden was a
flower market, but now it has cool shops, cafes, restaurants and street
theatre. Theatres and museums are close, too.

MUSEUM.
